AGIOS GEORGIOS North beach in KERKYRA
An enormous attractive sandy beach! Travelling down a beautiful road, about 40km northwest from the town of Kerkyra, lays the delightful resort of Agios Georgios. Set on the mouth of a beautiful valley, this resort leads up to the picture-perfect beach known as the beach of Agios Georgios (north). An ideal beach for families, it provides endless fun for kids or adults wanting to rest in the sun. It is well organised with umbrellas, sunbeds and many facilities. Unlike its southern namesake, the Agios Georgios beach is more natural, and calmer. It's not the easiest place to find, accessed from the main road beyond Sidari and Avliotes. Follow the signs for Afionas but don't detour into the village. Instead keep straight on and then look for the Agios Georgios signs on the roadside. Follow these down dusty, single-track roads until you arrive (you will probably get lost) at Agios Georgios beach (north Corfu). Maps are not helpful - just persevere! Disabled access: Yes. However, the sand is soft in a number of places making wheelchair access somewhat difficult. Rising gradients commence the further back into the resort you travel. Yoy may park on the roadside and you will find many places to eat or drink. It is ideal for children. It's sheltered, there are few waves and the sandy beach extends into a shallow, blue sea. However, the water does deepen pretty quickly and sometimes the wind can whip the sea around a bit. In such conditions, it is advisable to observe the beach flags and supervise younger swimmers. There is supposedly a lifeguard but none was present on inspection. Mooring for boats: No harbour as such but you can moor off in the delightful bay. Shelter is limited. Distance to main resorts: 0-1 km. depending on point of access. Public transport: Limited bus service. Taxis prowl. Blue Flag: Yes. |
