Emporio Gialos beach in Simi

Emporio (Nimporios) Gialos Beach Simi: On the Northern East area of Simi Island there are two relevant settlements rather close to Simi town; one is Chorio Village, in the area near Gialos harbour, and the other is Nimborios or Emporios Bay, where it lays the famous Nimborios Beach.

Compared to the size of the island, Gialos harbour seems enormous, and it still shows how important it used to be for the economy of Simi Island. However, Gialos or “Yialos” Beach is not as tranquil and peaceful as most tourists would like.

That’s the reason why they would rather go to lay on the sun or for a swim on the beaches between Gialos and Nimborios, as they are cleaner, less noisy, and less crowded as well. Moreover, there is a stifling heat in Gialos Beach around the harbour, which some tourists dislike, since the hills play the role of an amphitheatre, preventing the breeze from the mountains from blowing on the harbour and the beach.

The whole beach area between Simi and Nimborios village is pretty picturesque and peaceful. Its waters are more than suitable for swimming and, although those beaches are a little stony, the spotless beach and the crystal waters really compensate. Local guides, usually on their donkeys, take visitors for a tour in the area of Nimborios Gialos Beach to explore, take photos of the breathtaking views and feed the beach goats while they enjoy the smell of wild thyme and oregano invading the air from the hill to the beach.

No wonder why this place, the location of the ancient Metapontis town, is considered a second port and one of the most beautiful areas on Simi. Those tourists who are fond of exploring unspoiled locations and secluded beaches.

To sum up, this 4 kilometre strip of beaches offers a relaxing holiday in contact with the local culture and with nature. These beaches are clean and the crystal blue waters invite for a walk in the morning, a swim in the sea, and then to have lunch at the many traditional beach restaurants serving fish based dishes.

The tour attractions in the area are excellent to top a beach day and learn a little more on the locality, apart from taking some extra pictures that will contribute to make this holiday memorable.
