PORT/MARINA of IOS & YALOS beach in IOS
The port of Ios is found in a picturesque protected bay with a small settlemet, a beautiful long sandy beach and many tavernas, cafes, shops, hotels, rooms to let. A public marina is also available. The capital of the island, named Hora is found only 2 km from the port. Some more nice beaches are also found close to the port such as Koubara, Valmas and Tzamaria.
ANCHORING/MOORING IN PORT - MARINA OF IOS:
The port of Ios is one of the best protected in the Aegean as it is found in a large and deep natural bay named Yalos or Ormos.
Electricity supply pillars are not available. Water and fuel are provided on call, by the local suppliers.
Usually, finding a place there is not very difficult, even in the high season. Many shops, cafes and tavernas, along with well organised supermarkets are conviniently located close to the marina. Taxis and buses are also easily reached. However during the high season the port becomes noisy.
MOORING: If possible use the peer on the east side of the harbour, next to the ferry dock. Lazy lines are available there. If you don't find one drop your anchor further out of the buoy indicating the lazy lines chain. Keep a good distance from the dock and your gangway higher as the high speed ferries make surge.
NOTICE: Anchoring in the bay is forbidden. All yachts should use the marina.
HOLDING: Very Goog. Muddy sea-bed
ANCHORING in KOLITSANI beach: The near by narrow cove of Kolitsani (NW of the harbor) may offer an anchorage for one boat. It is safe but it can develop strong and uncomfortable swell and is exposed to the southerlies. The holding is good and it has a nice beach. It is ideal for those who want to spend a quiet night and have a morning wake up with a dive in the crystal clear waters
YALOS BEACH:
Yialos is a very beautiful sandy beach located at a few minutes walk from the main port and the marina, at the end of the road which follows the bay. It offers soft sand, crystal clear waters and protection from winds and waves. It is organised only in some parts, it has some trees for shade and is surrounded by nice tavernas, beach bars, cafes, mini markets and hotels. Watersports facilities are also offered. Despite the fact that is found so close to the port it is not as crowded as the beautiful Mylopotas beach.
