July
Emerging at the Amels shipyard in the early part of the month was Here Comes the Sun, the 83-metre flagship of the Limited Editions range. Exterior styling is by Tim Heywood, and the yacht has all the elegance and balance of her smaller Limited Editions sisters. The interior is by Winch Designs. “I knew she would be stunning. She’s very impressive and I think she’s a credit to the yard and all the hundreds of craftsmen working on her,” says the owner’s representative and project manager Yavor Nenov. You can see a video of her emerging at the yard here. The headline image above is the yacht on sea trials last month.

Also making the news this month was the sale of the first Sanlorenzo 64Steel – taking shape at the yard’s new facility in La Spezia. On the water and off cruising after handover was Moonen’s 30-metre Bijoux, the first yacht in its René van der Velden-designed semi-custom Caribbean range.

Spotted side-by-side at the Nobiskrug yard were the Philippe Stark-designed 119-metre Motor Yacht A and the 142.8-metre Sailing Yacht A. The monster three-masted sailing yacht is still under construction and more recently has been out on sea trials but was seen here as the scaffolding was removed. One style signature that the yachts share is oval-shaped portholes.

Leaving the Pendennis yard after an 18-month refit was the 1986 Feadship Constance. You can read all about the refit in Issue 53 of SuperYacht World, which is published on January 4. Also this month,  Amels and its parent company Damen announced the sale of the first 65-metre Damen SeaXplorer.
September
The winner of the 2016 Baccarat/SuperYacht World Award, announced at the Monaco Yacht Show, was the Amels Elixir. The exclusive piece of Baccarat crystal was presented to the owner of the 55-metre Limited Editions yacht by editor Paul Ashton. You can read a full report on the yacht in the forthcoming Issue 53 of SuperYacht World.

Another recent launch at the show was the 39-metre Dynamiq Jetsetter. The yacht sports an interior by Bannenberg & Rowell. Benetti unveiled its ‘smart custom Now series’ of all-aluminium yachts at the show. The series runs from 50 metres to 73 metres.
October
The breathtaking 123-metre Project Jupiter broke cover at Lürssen’s yard. The yacht features exterior design by H2 Yacht Design and an interior by March & White. Details of the yacht remain sparse, but the yard says that Project Jupiter is “a very unique design incorporating many striking features”.
Also making a first public appearance this month were the two near-50-metre launches from Christensen, Chasseur and Silver Lining. Pershing announced that the first example of its 140 had sold. The yard’s 42-metre flagship had been unveiled the year before.
 November
Unveiled at the De Vries yard in Makkum, Feadship’s 96.5-metre Vertigo made for an impressive sight. The yacht features exterior and interior design by Redman Whiteley Dixon and Chahan Interior Design, with Azure Naval Architects acting as owner’s project manager. “Vertigo sets a new standard for styling and is a true gentleman’s yacht,” says Feadship director Tom de Vries.
It has been a rich end to the year for new launches, with Kleven’s 116-metre U116 – a sistership to Ulysses – spotted on sea trials, and Turquoise Yachts unveiling the 47-metre Razan before sea trials and handover.
December
As the festival of giving approached, the Ferretti Group announced that it had auctioned an Aquariva Super to raise money to support communities who suffered during the Italian earthquakes in October and November. The boat’s special colour, dubbed Blue Wonderful, had been chosen by Sir Elton John at a special concert hosted by the Ferretti Group in September. The winning bid in the auction held at the Monaco Yacht Club was €430,000.

In a similarly worthy effort, the crew of the Amels 180 Gene Machine ‘cycled’ across the Atlantic (on a sundeck exercise back) to raise money for the Heart Research Institute and Duck and Drakes Cancer Trust.

On such a positive and optimistic note, it just remains for the whole of the SuperYacht World team to wish all its readers in every corner of the world, a peaceful and prosperous 2017.
