KOUTALAS beach on SERIFOS Featured
Koutalas Beach Serifos: The beach of Koutalas is on the south-west side of Serifos. Access to Koutalas beach is very simple, as there is a gravel road from Livadi, the popular port of the island, passing by the cemetery to the village. Koutalas beach is sheltered from the winds, as well as the sun, since it counts on many trees.
The fact of being secluded from the winds is very important especially in summer, when Serifos is subdued to a group of seasonal breezes called ‘Meltemia’, which have the advantage of cooling the heat of the summer but can turn annoying. It is a very quiet location with shiny pebbles and a little sand. Among its few facilities there are some small taverns available for a drink or lunch. Another positive feature about Koutralas beach is it allows visiting other interesting places, which can be included on the excursion schedule. One of them is the “Kastro tis Grias”, in the village area. It is placed on a hill overlooking the bay of Koutalas, which hosts other antique sites as well, like some old inhabited houses, remains from an old fortification wall, and from an early Christian basilica, on the chapel of Agia Irene
